Chapter 2719
My heart was heavy as I stepped through the gates of Yard Mansion again. Every step I took felt like my feet had been chained like it took a lot from me just to move them.
Sylvester was standing at the door to greet me. When he saw me, his face broke into a smile.
"I knew you would come."
"You'd better not play any tricks."
I was not deceived by his smile. It looked to me like nothing more than a disguise.
Sylvester shrugged, the expression on his face seemed harmless. "Don't worry. We don't have that many tricks to play. You can leave immediately after you understand what happened. Come with me." I followed Sylvester to the study.
The place looked the same as it did before.
Pushing open the door and entering, I caught the scent of sandalwood.
Silas was in his chair. He looked in our direction when he heard us and he pointed to the seat opposite him, motioning for me to sit down.
I made my way over and sat down. "Let's hear it."
"What do you want to know?"
"Didn't you say there was some truth to my mother's death? I only care about that," I said bluntly.
Silas closed his eyes when I brought it up as if he was recalling a very painful thing.
My brows furrowed as I waited for his response.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
Looking like he finally recollected himself, Silas opened his eyes. "You did your own investigation. You looked into what happened the night before Millie jumped off the mountain."
"I did but that was later proved to be false." I shook my head.
"No, that's the truth." Silas's eyes widened all of a sudden.
I could not help my hand clenching my hand on the chair as I gulped. "W-what?"
I could not believe what I had heard. If that were true, did that mean that...
"That's right. It's exactly what you're thinking now. I regret it, but it already happened and can't be undone." Guilt and regret filled Silas's voice.
I could tell he was not faking any of this from his expression.
My heart was conflicted at the moment.
"Did, did Thomas Grant really enter my mother's room?" I struggled with the question. I stared at the person in front of me, my gaze speculative. Perhaps Silas was lying. I would be able to tell. en
Then, Silas nodded firmly and replied, "I watched him go in." My heart went completely cold.
"That's why I targeted the Grants. When Thomas took a fancy to Millie, I thought our families matched in terms of power and that they could get married. I didn't expect Millie would..." Silas did not continue but judging from his appearance, he probably could not bring himself to.
The chill began to spread from the soles of my feet to my entire body. When I thought of my mother being forced on by Thomas, my heart felt it had been blocked. Then, recalled the hopeless look in her
in the video and my breathing felt like it was about to stop.
I was a little out of breath...
I supported my head on the table with my hand. Sylvester who had been standing at the side hurriedly came over when he saw this. "Wanda, you don't look too good. Do you want to rest for a bit?"
Waving my hand at him, I calmed myself before looking up at Silas again.
"Is everything you said the truth?"
"Every word."
"Not a single lie?"
"This is the truth. I keep seeing you chase after stories about your mother, so I thought I should tell you the truth before I left. It might be cruel to you but you deserve to know it."
"You married Theo Grant. Grandfather didn't want to tell you about it that's why I never said anything before," Sylvester also said at the side.
