Drifting away too soon
Oh. Ma. Goodness! What did I just do ? I just pushed my son farther from me. She said as she buried my face into my palm and wept. I don’t know what came over me, I confessed to nobody in particular.
Claire’s POV)
I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me. I tried to steady myself, but my vision went blurry. The next thing I knew, I was lying on the ground, my head spinning. My body felt light. I was aware of the people around her, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying. I closed her eyes, trying to will the dizziness away. But it was no use, my consciousness slowly slipped away.
When I opened my eyes, I found herself in a hospital bed. A doctor was standing over me, his brow furrowed with concern.
“How are you feeling?” he asked. The woman tried to speak, but her words were muddled and incoherent. The doctor’s face grew more worried, and he beckoned to nurse to move closer. The nurse came close and took my vitals. “What happened?” I managed to speak out.
“You fainted,” the doctor said, his voice gentle. “We’re not sure what caused it, but we’re going to run some tests to find out.” I nodded, but i was still confused. I had fainted before, but I couldn’t understand why it had happened again. The nurse wrapped her arms round my back to help me sit up, and the room began to spin again. The doctor put a hand on my shoulder, steadying me.”Just take it slow,” he said.
He then sat down on the edge of the bed, and the nurse left the room, closing the door behind her. “I know this must be a lot to take in,” the doctor said. “But I need to ask you some questions to help us figure out what happened.”
I nodded, and the doctor began to ask me about her medical history, my diet, and my sleep habits. I answered the questions as best as I could. The doctor looked at me, his brow furrowed in concern.
“Have you been under a lot of stress lately?” the doctor asked. I nodded. “I’ve been working long hours at my job, and I haven’t been sleeping well due to..,” she said. The doctor nodded, and his expression softened.
“Stress can sometimes lead to fainting,” he said. “Especially if you’re not getting enough rest. Do you mind if I ask what it is you do for a living?” I told him about my job, and he nodded thoughtfully.
“Your case is minor, I’ll prescribe some medicine you would take to calm you down.” He advised as he walked to the door and invited Alex in.
“Mr Alexander, please you have to make sure she doesn’t stress herself too much, although we will hold her down here for proper monitoring” he said.
Alright thank you doc. Alex responded.
The doctor left the room, leaving Alex and I alone.
Alex came closer touching my forehead with the his soft palm of his hand and ended up taking up my hand, “are you feeling good now?” he asked concerned.
“Yes, I feel better”, I replied with a smile
” About what happened…” I continued, but I was cut short when Alex placed his index finger on my lips.
“I will go out now and be back soon make sure you get enough sleep”. I advised as he slowly separated our hands. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
“Alright then, see you soon” I waved and he left.
I looked around for awhile and I was quite taken back.
The hospital room looked like an oasis, it was painted blue which is unusual for a hospital decor, but trust me it was soothing.
The room was filled with machines, all beeping and whirring softly. An IV drip stood next to my bed, delivering medicine into my bloodstream. A heart monitor beeped steadily, and a pulse oximeter measured my oxygen levels. A television in the corner of the room played a old christian song, that sounded as a lullaby, it driven me to sleep.
Narrator POV)
After Mrs Reynolds got home, it took a while before her phone rings diverting her attention, she sighs as she stands up and goes for it.
The phone rings again and she picks it up, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew who it was on the other end of the line, Alex of course and she was nervous. “Hello?” she said, trying to sound calm.
But she guessed wrong, it was her husband, “Hi,” the man on the other end of the line said. His voice was deep and smooth, and it sent a shiver down the woman’s spine. “How are you?” he asked.
She hesitated, not sure what to say, looked at the face of the phone. The number calling was not her husband’s phone number. “I’m fine dear,” she finally replied.
“I know this is sudden, but I’m actually in town,” the man said, his voice sounding hopeful. The woman’s heart started to race. “You’re here?” she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. “Yes,” he replied. “I just arrived at the terminal right now.
Mrs Reynolds felt a surge of happiness at the thought of seeing him again. He had always been her rock, the one person she could count on no matter what. She quickly rushes out with a driver to the airport, The airport is not far from Alex’s home.
Mrs Reynolds has previously sent a picture of Claire and her name to her husband, Mr Reynolds who is here for a reason.
The airplane door opened, and a gust of wind blew through the cabin. As he stepped out onto the tarmac, the sun shining brightly overhead. He took a deep breath, inhaling the warm, salty air. It had been too long since he had been home. As he walked towards the terminal, he couldn’t help but smile. He was finally back where he belonged, to his family, and he surely misses them.
