| opened my mouth to speak, but before | could utter a word, | caught Kex’s eye. Hist expression was smug, and it made my blood boil.
“Kex,” | said, my voice low and dangerous.
“Hmm?” he hummed, feigning innocence. | knew he was enjoying this, the mischief sparkling in his eyes.Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
“You're joking, right?” | asked, my voice cracking with emotion. “There’s no way you would let them go to war, right?” Kex's expression softened, but his eyes were still cold and calculating.
“There will be war, Nelly,” He said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
| felt my heart sink, the implications of his words weighing heavily on me. | knew what this meant — bloodshed, destruction, and suffering. And all for what?
| felt my anger simmering beneath the surface, threatening to boil over. | took a deep breath, struggling to keep my composure.
“War isn’t the solution, Kex,” | said, my voice quivering. “You just need to let him know that you killed his late beta because he killed yours. It was in self-defense.” He let out a short laugh, the sound hollow and cold.
“Oh, darling,” he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “It’s not that simple. I’m not a coward. If he wants war, then he'll get it.” | felt his hands on my waist, pulling me close. | tried to push him away, but he was too
strong.
“War isn’t good, Kex,” | said, my voice pleading.
“What are you scared of? That I’ll lose, or...?” He trailed off, unable to finish his thought. His gaze was dark, and | knew he was searching for the truth. | swallowed hard, trying to find the words to explain.
“It's not about winning or losing,” | said, finally finding my voice. “I’m scared of the innocent lives that will be lost. All because of pride.”
My words hung in the air, heavy with emotion. | held my breath, waiting for his response.
“It's true what they say that women make men weak,” he said, releasing me from his Ill

He placed a gentle kiss on my forehead, and then he turned towards the door. “Kex,” | called out, but he was already halfway out the door.
“What?” he asked, his hand on the doorknob. | took a deep breath, trying to find the courage to say what | needed to. “Get ready for war,” he said, before | could speak. With that, he walked out the door, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
| paced back and forth in the room, my thoughts racing. How could | stop this war? | wanted revenge on my brother, but not at the cost of innocent lives. But | never knew it wouldn't be that simple.
Kex was determined to fight, and | knew he wouldn't be easily persuaded. | felt my hands start to shake, my whole body trembling with fear.
The thought of what was to come filled me with dread. | sank onto the bed, my head in my hands. The door opened, and Aisha peeked her head inside.
“There you are! I’ve been looking all over the palace for you,” she said, walking into the room. | sat up, my eyes meeting hers. “Kex brought me to his room to treat my injury,” | said, my voice flat and emotionless.
Aisha’s expression softened, and she sat down next to me. “Let’s go back to your room,” she said gently, offering me a hand. | took it, and she helped me to my feet.
The door closed behind us with a soft click. Aisha sat me down on my bed, and then she turned to face me.
“Harry said there’s going to be war,” she said, her voice trembling with fear. | nodded, unable to speak. | could see the terror in Aisha’s eyes, and | knew she was thinking of what might happen to us.
“It's going to be bloody,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “We both know how powerful the Rogue King is.” | sat in silence, unable to deny her words.
“Can you talk to Kex about this?” Aisha asked, hope shining in her eyes.
“| tried,” | replied, my voice heavy with regret. “I tried to persuade him, but he said no. He said he is not a coward, and that there must be war.”
Aisha looked down at the floor, her shoulders sagging. “Harry feels the same way,” she said quietly.
| bit my lip, knowing that Aisha was right. We were all in this together, and there was no turning back now, [e)
There was a knock on the door, and | rose from the bed to answer it. My legs felt heavy as | made my way to the door, my heart pounding in my chest. | opened the door to see one of the guards standing there, his face impassive.
“The Alpha seeks your presence,” he said, his voice monotone.
| nodded, and I saw Aisha standing in the corner of my vision, her face pale. We followed the guard out of the room, the sound of our footsteps echoing down the hall.
“What does he want?” Aisha whispered, her voice barely audible. | shook my head, not knowing the answer myself. The guard led us to a room, opening the door and revealing the dimly lit space within.
The only light was a small lamp in the center of the room, casting a faint glow over Kex’s face. He stood, his back to us, his shoulders tense. The air was thick with tension, and | could feel my heart pounding in my chest.
Aisha went to stand next to Harry, who was speaking quietly with a group of guards. | went to stand beside Kex, who was staring intently at a map that was laid out on the table in front of him. He turned to look at me, a smile playing across his lips.
“Now that everyone is here, let's begin,” he said, his voice commanding and confident.
He began to discuss the plans for the upcoming battle, and | listened closely, trying to stay focused despite the adrenaline coursing through my veins.
“Aisha and Nelly will be responsible for the women and children,” Kex said, his tone firm. “On no account should you leave them. You will protect them with your sword.”
| felt a chill run down my spine, and | nodded, unable to speak. Aisha left Harry and stood beside me, | felt Aisha’s hand tremble in mine. | looked at her, and she gave me a shaky smile.
“Do we have to do this?” | whispered to Kex, my voice barely audible. “Yes, that’s if you want to survive” he said, his voice hard and unyielding.
His voice faded into the background, and | found myself unable to focus on his words. My heart was beating so fast that it was all | could hear. What if one of us died? W
if | lost Aisha or Harry?
| looked at Kex, my eyes wide with fear. He was watching me intently, his expression unreadable. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice soft and low.
“Yes,” | lied, my voice barely above a whisper.
Mm
He leaned in and kissed me, his lips warm and reassuring. “Don’t be scared.”
