Moreover, it appeared as though he was being ignored by both Deasy and the doctor in front of him. Was his stature not imposing enough to be noticed in this situation?
“Ahem!”
Lucas deliberately cleared his throat loudly, wanting both individuals who were catching up in front of him to realize that he was present in their midst. “Sorry, but aren’t we here for a medical consultation? Why has it turned into a reunion and a trip down memory lane?”
After being reprimanded, both Deasy and the doctor fell silent, feeling awkward. Deasy took the initiative to introduce her husband to the doctor.
“Luc, let me introduce you. This is Joseph. He’s an old friend of mine.”
Lucas nodded lazily and accepted the doctor’s extended hand.
“Joseph. Friend and Deasy’s ex-boyfriend.”
Lucas was taken aback by the doctor’s confidence. Feeling challenged, he responded with equal arrogance, “Lucas. The guy who got Deasy pregnant.”
Deasy turned to him, her eyes wide. Technically, Lucas hadn’t said anything untrue. After all, he was the one who had impregnated her. The issue was why he didn’t just say that he was Deasy’s husband. Why did he have to phrase it in such a way?
“What do you mean?” Joseph asked, confused. Whether he was slow on the uptake or didn’t understand what Lucas was saying, he seemed to be denying what he heard.
“Can’t you figure it out? If you’re Deasy’s ex, then I’m Deasy’s future. In short, her husband. H-U-S-B-A-N-D. Husband!”
Joseph was dumbfounded for a few seconds. Convinced of what he had heard, he then turned to Deasy, as if seeking further clarification.
“Yeah, Jo,” Deasy said. “Let me introduce him. This is Lucas, my husband.”
“Oh, you’re married.”
“Yeah, of course, we’re married,” Lucas interjected intentionally. “Do you think someone can get pregnant like this and not be married? Preposterous.”
Sensing the situation heating up and wanting to avoid an argument, Deasy quickly resumed her purpose for coming in for the check-up. She proceeded to explain all the discomforts she had been experiencing lately. After some examination, the doctor shared his observations.
“Before I continue, may I ask if you have a family history of hypertension?”
Deasy shook her head.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
“My parents actually have low blood pressure.”
“Alright. In that case, sorry in advance, did you regularly consume alcohol before your pregnancy? Or perhaps you were an active smoker?”
“No, Jo,” Deasy shook her head again. “I didn’t do either of those. Let’s just say I’ve always been clean. Why do you ask?”
“Actually, high blood pressure during pregnancy can be caused by various factors, such as being overweight or obese, lack of exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption, a family history of hypertension related to pregnancy, or having diabetes or certain autoimmune diseases.”
“I admit I haven’t been very active in terms of exercise. I tend to be lazy,” Deasy confessed.
Joseph smiled. “High blood pressure or hypertension during pregnancy isn’t always dangerous if managed properly. However, sometimes high blood pressure can lead to serious health complications for both the mother and the developing baby. But you don’t need to panic if you experience high blood pressure during pregnancy. There are several ways to manage the condition.”
“So, what actions should be taken at this point?” Deasy asked cautiously.
“First, take the blood pressure medication as prescribed by the doctor. Monitor your blood pressure regularly. Consume healthy food. Engage in light exercise frequently, and avoid anything that’s restricted. If you do all of these, I’m confident that your concerns will gradually return to normal,” Dr. Joseph advised.
Deasy nodded in understanding and decided to follow Jonas’s recommendations. She was then given a prescription to fill and take as directed.
“Take all of them regularly and in the prescribed dosage. If you have any concerns, you can contact me or come to the hospital for further examination.”
Dr. Joseph then reached for a neatly organized business card from a box on his desk. Without hesitation, he handed it to Deasy, right in front of Lucas.
“You can consult if there’s an emergency. I’m always available for you.”
Deasy nodded once again. Feeling there were no more questions to ask, she bid farewell and went to pick up her medication. Once they were back home and on their way home, Deasy sensed something was amiss with Lucas.
Since leaving the hospital, he had been silent. Even his handsome face seemed to be twisted in annoyance, a stark contrast to his demeanor when they had left earlier.
Curious, Deasy decided to address the issue and find out what was really happening with her husband.
“Darling… what’s wrong? You’ve been quiet all this time.”
Lucas turned to her and, with a sarcastic look, let out an audible sigh. Deasy was sure her husband was upset.
“What’s wrong with you? So chummy with the doctor back there. A high school reunion or what?”
“Oh, my God… Are you jealous?”
“Jealous? Of course. How could I not be jealous when I saw how he was looking at you? I have friends, but I’ve never seen them gaze at the opposite sex like that. Not to mention dealing with an ex.”
“Well, maybe Joseph was just reminiscing about the past. After all, I was his most memorable ex,” Deasy quipped without a trace of guilt.
Lucas grew even more irritated. Sulking, he grumbled, “Maybe it’s because Joseph remembers the past. After all, I was his most memorable ex.”
Deasy laughed it off. She couldn’t be bothered by Lucas’s jealousy right now. Besides, she was confident that her husband would return to his normal self soon enough. Just wait and see!
