Chapter 242
Chapter 242
Yvonne’s sudden breakdown made everyone present frown.
She was curled up on the ground, and her hair was a mess.
At first, her crying was muffled. But it gradually grew louder. Her hoarse voice made her cries sound
neither sad nor angry. Instead, it actually sounded funny, like a duck quacking.
Ivor turned around and kicked her shoulder. “Why are you crying like you’re at a funeral? That old fart
inside isn’t dead yet!”
Yvonne couldn’t stop crying, and tears blurred her vision.
Though Ivor’s kick had thrown her to the ground, she didn’t even notice the pain in her shoulder.
She just shook her head at him. “You can’t do this. You’ll be punished by the heavens!”
“Marrying you was already my worst punishment!” Ivor snapped back.
“He’s my father! How could you think of selling his kidney for money? Can’t you consider our years
together…”
Ivor’s curses interrupted Yvonne’s words, but tears continued to flow down her face as she pleaded
with him.
When Candice overheard Yvonne, she suddenly looked up and glared at Ivor.
“What is she talking about?!”

Annoyed by Yvonne’s tears, Ivor grumbled, “Are you deaf? Your money. Since you won’t pay, let the old
man do it!
“He’s old and can only fetch 800,000, at most! What a waste! He’s’a burden even in death!” Ivor spat
out disdainfully.
“Are you even human?!” Candice’s chest heaved violently.
Ivor was talking as if he were a monster…!
He was a demon!
Although Joe was in the hospital room, Candice was too enraged to care. She grabbed her bag and
lunged at Ivor.
“You’re wares than —

s wrist.
Alex towered over him and exuded a dominating presence that enveloped the room.
Ivor paused, then quickly retorted with a darkening face, “This is family business! What’s it got to do
with you? If you’re so eager to intervene, how about giving me ten million?”
Candice’s kick had hit Ivor hard, making him lose all sense of dignity. He acted like a mad dog.
ready to bite anyone in sight.
Alex stared at him with a hint of sarcasm in his eyes.
“Who do you think you are? So blatantly dealing in selling and buying organs… If you’re tired of living,
there are better ways to meet your end,” Alex remarked with an air of authority.
The constant pressure of a dominant figure emanated from Alex. He tightened his grip on Ivor.
and the latter’s face twisted in pain.
It seemed he wanted to retort, but when Alex’s fingers tightened slightly, beads of sweat formed
on Ivor’s forehead.
Years of heavy drinking and involvement in shady dealings had taken a toll on Ivor’s health. Though he
was a man and could exert brute force, he wouldn’t stand a chance against stronger
men.
Just like the nurse who had earlier thrown him out of the hospital room.
Candice felt the urge to kick Ivor again as she watched him. However, upon meeting Alex’s icy gaze,
she regained some composure. She called the police.Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
Ivor’s involvement in organ trafficking would surely lead to an investigation. Without concrete evidence,
he might only receive a warning.
Yet, as Candice watched the police escort him away, a weight lifted from her heart.
Candice ignored Yvonne, who was still on the ground. She entered the room to check on Joe.
He was awake but couldn’t discern what was happening outside due to the closed door. Candice

reassured him until she was certain he was fine, then left.
Outside the room, she spotted Alex’s distinguished figure. He sat casually on a bench with his long legs
stretched out, scrolling through his phone in a bored manner.
After contemplating for a moment, Candice approached him and asked gently, “Are you okay?”
Alex raised his head but didn’t look at her. Instead, his gaze wandered to the hospital room behind
her.
“Why not transfer him to another hospital?”
Given the disturbances caused by Ivor and Yvonne, it would be challenging for Joe to recuperate
peacefully.
“It’s not easy to transfer him,” Candice replied. “His wounds haven’t fully healed, and the procedures for
transferring are complicated and troublesome.”
Alex’s eyebrows twitched slightly, but he remained silent.
Candice’s mind was in turmoil, caught off guard by one event after another. Due to the recent
altercation, she felt a dull ache throughout her body but held her tongue.
Alex glanced at her and said coldly. “Was I the one who hit you?”
Candice was taken aback at the question.
Alex clicked his tongue and then stood up. “From how you’re acting, anyone would think you’re here to
claim medical expenses from me because I hit you or something.”
Candice stood rooted to the spot. “You’re overthinking it.”
Alex paused, then looked at her with a meaningful gaze. “Do you plan to wait here for Ivor to
return?”
Candice looked up, meeting Alex’s eyes. He smirked slightly, his tone devoid of emotion as he said, “I’ll
take you home. I can’t afford it if anything happens to you. After all, I did bring you here.”
With the logic in Alex’s words, Candice had little room for argument. She followed him downstairs at a
leisurely pace. Neither of them expected to encounter Sonia downstairs.
Sonia held several bags that appeared to be supplements. Upon spotting Alex and Candice, her brows
furrowed instantly.
Biting her lip, she forced a smile and said, “Lex, why are you with Candice?”
Alex replied curtly, “Handling some matters.”

“Are they settled then?”
Although Sonia directed her question at Alex, her eyes involuntarily drifted toward Candice. Not. having
the energy to deal with Sonia, Candice said quietly, “I need to go.”
She left without another word.
Watching Candice depart, Sonia gritted her teeth and then looked at Alex. “Since when did you and
Candice become so close? What business do you have together?”
Alex’s gaze was deep and revealed nothing. “It’s nothing.”
Candice hailed a cab outside, expecting a brief respite for a few days. Yet, to her dismay, another
incident arose that very night.
