Marrying my high school bully

His baby’s mother

Dexter

Why did I feel like going to Emilia’s house was a bad idea?

It was because of this same thought that I didn’t bother to visit her when she told me that her house was broken into. Knowing how deceitful she could be, I didn’t see the need to go until she called me again this afternoon.

Presently, I was standing in front of her apartment, contemplating on going back or seeing through my plans.

I chose the former and knocked on her door. It opened and she came out, training a scowl at me. “It took you ages to get here.” She whined while I rolled my eyes.

I rolled my eyes incessantly when I was with her because she was very annoying. “Are we going to have the conversation out here or do you want me to get home?”

“Come in,” She said lazily and I did, running a quick scan around the living room.

The walls were still intact, the same went for the odd windows. If there was a break-in, the first place they’d think of exiting would be through the window except they were skilled thieves who knew how to pick locks.

My eyes darted to her upholster which was also torn apart. I furrowed my brows in irritation, realizing that she had made it up and there was no real break-in.

If there was, the so-called thieves would be smart enough to know that searching the chairs would take their time and they could get caught.

“There was no break-in, Emilia,” I stated as calmly as I could and she huffed, trying to fake an offended expression, but I could see right through it.

I watched her fool around.

“You don’t get to say that when you didn’t come here as soon as I informed you of my dilemma. How dare you make me feel like I’m telling a lie?” She seethed while I plopped down on her armchair.

She refused to keep eye contact with me but I didn’t care. It wouldn’t even be hard to prove her wrong.

“My dear, Emilia, how did you get into the house?”

“I opened the door with my key and found my properties disheveled. Even my flower vases were smashed and the shards littered on the ground.” She blurted without thinking.NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.

I felt like laughing. “The lock of the door was perfectly fine?”

She darted her eyes around then bit her lips, realizing her mistake. “What’s your point, Dexter?” She yelled.

“My point is that you aren’t so good at lying, and I’d also like to ask you the same question. What’s the point of making up a story that your apartment was broken into when there’s no real evidence backing you up? Did you even alert the police of your predicament?” I lashed out at her and she shook her head.

“I was waiting for you to come because I was confused…”

“No, Emilia. You didn’t alert the cops because there was no story to tell. Your house was never broken into, so can you explain to me why you lied?” My formerly calm voice gradually rose in exasperation.

She fiddled her fingers when she knew that I’d caught her.

“I’m broke, Dexter,” She confessed and flung herself on my feet. “I need money badly.”

“I remember remitting your monthly allowance early this month so how can you be broke already? Lilly, whose expenses take most of the money, isn’t even here with you, so what are you talking about?”

She fell silent and grabbed my legs. Her silence was irritating because I knew that she had a plausible explanation for her actions.

I rose to my feet when I saw that she wasn’t going to say anything. “Don’t ever call me without any good reason, Emilia,” I warned and shoved her hands off my legs.

I’d almost gotten to the door when she said, “I’m in a huge mess, Dexter. I incurred some debts and my creditors are on my neck.”

The urge to yell at her and caution her for spending extravagantly gnawed in my chest, but I wasn’t going to do it. I only saw her as my responsibility and no baby mama of mine would suffer under my watch even if I didn’t love her.

“How did that even happen?” I asked with a tired tone.

“Honestly, I can’t tell. But you know that my lifestyle is really expensive and ever since my modeling career went down the drain, it has become extremely hard for me to make ends meet.”

The fact that she was wrong and didn’t know it was appalling. Emilia spent frivolously without thinking of how it would affect her.

Maybe it was because she had other men footing her bills, but after she gave birth to Lilly most of her boyfriends jilted her. They began to see her as worn out and I’m sure that was yet to register that knowledge in her brain.

Emilia was a talented model, but she allowed the fame that came with it to distract her from her career. Unlike Melissa who was sold out for her career and business.

Thinking about her reminded me of her meeting with her father. She hadn’t sent me a message and I was getting worried.

“How much are your debts?” I asked casually and she grinned at me.

“Over five hundred…” She drawled nonchalantly as if it were normal to be a debtor.

I brought out my phone and sent the money to her. I returned the phone to my pocket and folded my arms, waiting for her to receive an alert.

It didn’t take time as she pulled me close for a tight hug. “Thank you so much, Honey. I’m so glad to have you.”

I pushed her away, unable to suppress my annoyance.

“Have you ever asked about your daughter since I came in?”

Shame washed over her face as she lowered her lashes. “Oh, how is she? I miss her so much.”

“Oh no, you don’t. You only miss using her to extort money from me. Do you even care about her? Ever since I took her away, it felt like I did you a huge favor by taking a heavy yoke off your shoulders.”

She dramatically held onto her chest as if my words could break into her dead conscience. “Don’t say that, Dexter, I love my daughter as much as you love her.” She said in her defense but it only got me more angry.

“Better make sure that this is the last debt you’ll incur because I won’t be available to save your ass next time,” I warned and turned away.

I scoffed as I crossed over to the door. I’d already gotten into the car when I saw someone alight from a Chevrolet Trailblazer. His head was inclined with a face cap on it as though he was trying to hide his identity.

And his eyes had a pair of sunshades on them. I wondered where he was headed since he parked his car close to the neighbor’s fence. Then he jumped over the iron bars separating both houses and knocked at Emilia’s door.

My body went taut with adrenaline surging through me. Though I couldn’t stand Emilia’s annoying gut, it didn’t mean that I wanted anyone to hurt the mother of my child.

I hopped out of my car and quickly ran back to her house, barging in so that I could catch him red-handed, but I met the surprise of my life.

The man who I thought was a thief was Liam and the most annoying part, was that he was straddling Emilia on the chair.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” I thundered and dragged him away from her roughly.

Emilia quickly covered herself properly, her hair tousled and her cheeks flushed. “Take him away, Dexter, he’s a thief. He came here to steal from me.” She screamed, her body visibly trembling.
