Chapter 273
Chapter 273
Two Italians shrugged with a gesture of resignation and finally said, "Alright then, goodbye."
Dagmar translated for Sanderson, "Mr. Delaney, it seems they don't want to disclose the reason. They just said 'let's talk next time.""
Next time? This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
Sanderson was utterly baffled!!
Did this mean the deal was off the table?
How could things have taken such a sudden turn?
After all, when Sanderson had landed this project, there had been voices of dissent within the company, claiming it was a pipe dream.
Sanderson thought, how could anyone know the outcome without giving it a shot?
He had been looking forward to using this project as a slap in the face to those old-timers at the company who doubted him! Everything had been going smoothly, the price had been agreed upon, and they were supposed to sign the contract today. How could it all fall apart so suddenly?
He watched in disbelief as the two men walked away.
Lost in translation, he didn't know how to make sense of this, so he turned to Dagmar, "Dagmar, quick, follow them out, ask them what's really going on!"
Dagmar nodded, "Will do."
As Dagmar chased after the Italians, Everard suddenly spoke up, "I'll go take a look too."
Sanderson nodded anxiously.
With Everard and Dagmar gone, Cordelia tried to console Sanderson, "Dad, if this deal didn't work out, there will be others. Don't worry." Sanderson glanced at Cordelia, who he thought didn't understand the magnitude of running the entire company. With factions from Kermit and Steward within, he couldn't just start his tenure with massive layoffs; he had to show tangible profits to gain their respect.
But if this juicy deal slipped through his fingers, what ground would he have to stand on?
Sanderson frowned.
Cordelia stealthily followed Everard and Dagmar, catching up with the Italians in the parking lot.
Dagmar attempted to salvage the situation with an offer in Italian, "Even if we can't make a deal, how about a drink to part on good terms?"
The Italians declined, "No need, our time is precious. We thought Mr. Delaney was more generous, but he seemed quite stingy about the shipping costs!"
Dagmar sighed, "Mr. Delaney was considering the costs."
The Italians exchanged looks, "So there's no chance?"
Dagmar shook her head.
As they headed toward their car, Dagmar turned back towards the brightly lit banquet hall. The light spilling through the windows cast an eerie glow on her smile.
Something was off.
Cordelia's intuition screamed that Dagmar had been compromised. Was she secretly working for Kermit?
Just then, the Italians started their car, ready to leave.
If they left now, the deal would definitely be off. Although Cordelia didn't grasp all the details, she could tell from Sanderson's reaction that this deal was crucial.
Without a second thought, she dashed in front of the Italians' car!
"Screech!"
The car halted just in time.
The Italians got out, babbling at Cordelia in Italian.
Cordelia furrowed her brows, regretting not learning Italian sooner.
Dagmar rushed over, "Miss, what are you doing? Are you out of your mind?"
Cordelia stared at Dagmar, "Translate."
Dagmar hesitated but complied, "The young lady is sorry for the inconvenience and would like to invite you for a drink."
The Italians hurriedly declined, "We're in a hurry. If there's an issue, Mr. Delaney can discuss it with us."
Cordelia pressed on, "Ask them if there's a problem with our product or something else they're dissatisfied with?"
Dagmar relayed the question half-heartedly, "The young lady is naive and doesn't understand these matters. We apologize for the disturbance." The Italians gestured dismissively.
Dagmar turned to Cordelia with a fabricated translation, warning about the damage to the company's reputation from such actions.
Cordelia, with a firm tone, accused, "Your translation is off."
Dagmar's facade cracked, panic setting in, but she quickly regained her composure, defiantly suggesting Cordelia take her suspicions to Sanderson.
At that moment, Kermit appeared, chastising Cordelia for her behavior and berating her for tarnishing the Delaney family's name by not letting the Italians leave after a failed deal negotiation.
Before Cordelia could even get a word in, Sanderson was already making his way over, supporting Steward on his arm.
The deal hadn't gone through, and it weighed heavily on Sanderson's mind. He had intended to follow up and ask why, but unexpectedly ran into Steward, who had just escorted Bill and Hackett to the VIP lounge.
Steward, always keen on the company's affairs, had hurried over as well, eager to figure out what was going on.
By now, all the guests had arrived, including the highly esteemed Bill, leaving the parking lot momentarily free of outsiders.
Kermit was in the midst of scolding
Cordelia, "No wonder your aunt says you're rude. You handle things so carelessly. Even if you were raised in an orphanage, you shouldn't act like this! Failing to close a deal and then detaining the clients? Is this the kind of business ethic you learned?"
As Sanderson approached, Kermit, still holding a superior demeanor, began to lecture him as well, "Big brother, Kot to criticize you, but you're spoiling the child too much! This is becoming lawless. If were you, I'd lock her up at home and give her a good whipping!"
The scene was ripe with tension as traditional values clashed with modern sensibilities, and the air was thick with the anticipation of how this family drama would unfold.
