Let’s Rewrite Our Love Story, Ms Summer Frost

CHAPTER 12

CHAPTER 12

Summer Frost

An awkward silence assumed the atmosphere as I sat in the living room with Dad. Hunter left earlier after he got a call from someone according to him. Maybe it was just an excuse to leave me and Dad to talk about it since it was something personal,

Many questions I wanted to ask Dad ran through my mind, but I didn’t know which one to ask first. There was no point asking him again if he knew about Xander because it was obvious that he knew who Xander was. The question is, how? How did he know about him, and for how long?

“Just go ahead if you have questions to ask. You need to see the look you are giving me,” He uttered, and I sighed.

“How did you find out about Xander? For how long have you known about him?” I finally asked the question I was so curious about, and he shrugged.

“From the beginning,” I was stunned by his reply. I thought I did a good job over the years by hiding everything from him, but it occurred to me now that i was mistaken and deceiving myself all this while.

“I couldn’t just take in someone like that without checking her background. I did some checkings and found out that you were married to Xander Hughes for two years…” I looked at him as he paused.

“I know how he threw you out of his house that night also. I’m not someone you can hide something from, unless I don’t want to find out about it,” My jaw dropped to the ground as the realization dawned on me that I had been fooling around all this while thinking that I was careful enough.

Silence assumed the atmosphere, and 1 bit my lip, unable to say anything as I was short of words.

“You still love him, right?” I looked at him after he asked me the question. For the next few seconds, I stared back at him wordlessly, trying to search for the answer even when it was so obvious that I was still in love with Xander.

“I will let go of the past as if it never happened. Let’s get back together Recalling those words he had said to me and even more, I felt disgusted and annoyed. He didn’t deserve my love.

“No,” I thought my voice was going to be confident to prove my reply, but it came out weakly. Deep inside me, I know the answer wasn’t right. I was still in love with that jerk even after everything.

“Good…” Dad paused and adjusted on the couch.

“You should get along with Hunter. Hang out with him more often and get to know him. I’m sure you two will make a perfect match, He stated with finality in his voice, and I bit my lip.

“I know you don’t like Hunter yet. He is a good guy, and I’m sure he will win your heart along the line,” He stated like he was so sure of it. As if he owned and controlled my heart.

“You don’t have to get married right away. You can give it time and get along first,” He further said, and I nodded since I didn’t have a choice,

out later,” He suggested as he stood up from the couch.

“Miguel told me that the hospital project is almost done. You should go check it out

“Yes, Dad. I will do that,” I replied to him before he walked away. Mr. Miller had been nothing but a good and considerate man who picked me at my lowest and built me until now. Maybe I would’ve been dead by now if he never showed up in my life, and it’s only right that I do what he wanted, right?

“Don’t think about that jeik. You have to forget about him,” I told myself as I stood up from the couch and headed to my room on the second floor. Since 1 had nothing important to do, I decided to get some rest while waiting for my kids to get back from school.

“The Hughes family is one of the most influential families in the city, and trust me, you don’t want to mess with me‘ I scoffed unbelievably as his threats replayed in my head. The imagination of the expression he would have on his face when he finally realized that I was now the CEO of the wealthiest companies in the city, even more successful than him, just gave me this satisfying feeling.

“Let’s see what’s going to happen,” I smiled as I removed my wristwatch and dropped it carefully on the dressing table as I sat in front of the mirror,

My phone beeped while I was removing my earrings, so I paused and picked it up,

I’m sorry I had to hear that. I feel like it’s my fault that Mr. Miller was like that to you‘ It was a text from Hunter.

‘Hmm… It’s fine” I replied to him bluntly and was going to drop my phone when another text from him came in.

“Let’s go out on a date this weekend. Will you be free?”

“I don’t know what you’re thinking, but it won’t ever happen. Yes, Dad wants us together, but I don’t like you, and nothing is ever going to happen between us. Stop texting me I had already typed the text and was going to send it to him, but I changed my mind at the last minute and wiped it.

“Hmm. I’ll let you know when I’m free‘ I tossed my phone away on the bed after I replied to his text.

My life felt like a total mess, but I could do nothing but be trapped inside. That is how bad is it.

Brushing all my thoughts away, I stood up from the dressing chair and walked over to the bed in a bid to take a nap, but my phone started to ring with Miguel’s number displayed on the screen. I answered on the first ring.

“There is an emergency, ma’am. Mrs. Hughes’s condition is getting worse and Mr. Xander reached out to me for the surgery,” His voice sounded from the other end, and I rolled my eyes, Does Xander think that I care about his Mom or him? Hell nah! They can die for all I care.

“Tell him to go look for another surgeon. I’m about to take a nap, and you know I hate it when someone disturbs my sleep. Don’t call me again,” And with that, I ended the call and dropped my phone on the bedside table. Let’s see how Xander will be able to handle losing his Mom…
