Chapter 77
Chapter 77
That was precisely why Angeline had deliberately kept a distance from him.
After all, she was a public figure. There was no telling what the unscrupulous media would write about them if photographs of them together were taken.
However, Evander’s behavior showed that he was seemingly unaware of the problem. After their meal, he even sent her back to the filming site.
Before Angeline got down from the car, Floretta wore a dejected expression on her face as she tugged the hem of the woman’s shirt and said reluctantly, “Angel, now that you’re so popular, will I see you less in the future?”
“Of course not.” Angeline bent down, took Floretta’s hand, and said guiltily, “I’ve been quite busy recently and neglected you. Please wait a little longer, and I will have more time to accompany you, okay?”
“Really?” Floretta’s eyes lit yup.
“Of course! To make it up to you, I will get Jacob’s autographed photo for you after this. Okay?”
Floretta had been telling Angeline excitedly about how Jacob was her Prince Charming during their meal in the restaurant. In the past, she wanted to attend Jacob’s concerts, but Evander was too stingy to let Floretta buy tickets.
Angeline was shocked to learn that children nowadays were too mature for their age. Back when she was five years old, all she knew was to play all day and make a mess. Nevertheless, appeasing the little girl was her top priority at that moment.
“Wow! You’re amazing, Angel!” Floretta was over the moon as she swung Angeline’s hands gleefully. “Does that mean I’ll be able to meet Jac soon?”
“W-Well…”
Angeline paused immediately as she glanced at Evander, who wore a cold expression and remained silent throughout the conversation between her and Floretta. A hint of fear subconsciously arose within Angeline.
Stroking Floretta’s braids gently, she replied earnestly, “I’m afraid it’ll require your daddy’s consent.”
Upon hearing that, Floretta turned around and threw herself at Evander, hugging his knees as her jet- black eyes sparkled with anticipation. “Please, Daddy?”
“Not a chance!”
Evander picked her up and looked at her sternly. His tone was firm and resolute as he said, “Floretta, you should behave yourself. At your age, you should be studying hard rather than fangirling over some celebrity with rocks for brains.”
Floretta was speechless.
“From tomorrow onward, I’m going to have Francesca hire a tutor for you.” With that, he placed Floretta in the car seat next to him and fastened her seat belt.
“No! Save me, Angel!” Floretta struggled as she wiped her tears, trying to wriggle her way out of her seat. It was common for children to detest studying.
Afraid that the little girl might get hurt, Angeline got anxious. She couldn’t help chiding angrily, “Mr. Golding, why are you being so harsh with her? Can’t you just let her have a happy childhood?”
“Are you talking to me?” Evander answered with a question instead.
Angeline felt embarrassed as she struggled to find her words.
“Ms. Sorelle, I’m afraid you’ve forgotten who you are. Considering that you are not my daughter’s mother, why should I listen to your parenting advice?”
Evander’s tone was icy cold as he straightened the hem of his shirt with an indifferent expression.
“D-Do you think I give a d*mn about how you raise your child?” Angeline was angry and frustrated. How can a man have such erratic mood swings? Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
“Drive,” Evander ordered the driver in front of him.
Soon, the luxury car’s engine started and it drove away, gradually disappearing from Angeline’s sight. As the sound of Floretta’s crying faded away, the woman sighed and felt slightly worried.
She rubbed her temples gently with her long, slender fingers while her expression gradually eased, but she was still furious deep down.
Evander’s warning was still echoing in her mind, jolting her out of her reverie.
She wouldn’t interfere so much with his affairs if it weren’t for Floretta’s sake.
However, apart from their personal feud, what Evander said was also true. I’m not related to Floretta at all. It certainly seems like I’ve been caring too much for her…
Even though Evander’s car had already left the filming site for quite some time, Floretta was still weeping beside him.
Seeing that, he snapped at Floretta, “Is she really that good? Why do you listen to her when she’s not even your mother?”
Having been berated sternly by Evander, Floretta cried even louder until she was nearly out of breath.
The driver said cautiously, “Mr. Golding, Ms. Floretta’s too young to know any better. You should try to console her…”
Getting a headache from his daughter’s sorrowful sobs, Evander was annoyed and felt sorry for her at the same time. He reached out to help her unfasten her seat belt and held her in his arms, consoling her softly, “All right, don’t cry. It’s not like I won’t let you two meet again!”
Upon hearing his words, Floretta gradually calmed down. She looked at Evander tearfully and asked between sobs, “C-Can I meet Jac then?”
“No.”
Evander’s expression darkened. He couldn’t comprehend why Angeline and Floretta were fond of such a good-for-nothing pretty boy.
Floretta was disappointed, but Angeline was still the person she cared about the most. She wouldn’t mind anything else as long as she could continue to see Angeline in the future.
Hence, she stopped crying and drifted off to sleep in his arms.
When they were about to arrive home, Evander received a call from Sylas. “Mr. Golding, something happened to Angeline, but I am not sure if I should tell you about it.”
“Say it!” Evander ordered.
“News just broke out that Angeline had been pregnant out of wedlock. There were photos as evidence, and it seemed like the rumor was… true.”
Pregnant out of wedlock?
Evander furrowed his eyebrows heavily. His expression was grim and dark.
He then went on Twitter and checked the trending topics. As soon as he saw the topic concerning Angeline, he clicked on it and saw a photo of a pregnant Angeline.
The background of the photo appeared to be a rustic house in the countryside. Angeline’s face was bare from makeup while she gazed eagerly out of the window.
Most importantly, she was cradling her slightly protruding tummy, seemingly in her third or fourth month of pregnancy.
“Are you sure it’s not an edited photo?” Evander’s tone was extremely serious.
“I’ve already had the technical staff look into it, and they confirmed that it wasn’t edited,” Sylas replied.
Evander’s hands which were on his lap balled tightly into fists as his eyes were filled with disbelief and shock.
It would have been hard to believe that Angeline was once pregnant if it weren’t for the obvious evidence.
No wonder she adores Floretta and she seems to know what she’s doing whenever she takes care of her. She doesn’t look like she’s inexperienced at all. She hasn’t given herself away at all. Moreover, she’s able to maintain her figure and appearance as if she’s in her early twenties. If she had given birth before, why didn’t I see that child when I went to her place for dinner?
Women with secrets were always charming. Moreover, Floretta loved hanging out with Angeline, and he wasn’t going to allow his daughter to continue interacting with the woman without knowing about her background.
“I want you to find out what happened and when Angeline became pregnant.”
“Yes, Mr. Golding!”
For the time being, Evander would have to limit Floretta’s interactions with Angeline.
He wanted to prevent anything like what happened in the freezer room from occurring again.
When Angeline returned to the filming site, she found everyone staring at her strangely.
Furthermore, those who normally greeted her didn’t bother to greet her. Instead, they were discussing something among themselves.
After noticing the strange atmosphere, Angeline deliberately slowed down and listened in on their conversation.
