Chapter 174
Hector POV
The sense of foreboding refuses to leave me, I just couldn't shake it off. I was trying to work as quickly as
I could.
I had felt it since leaving Kaia. My wolf was unhappy with me, but my pack was safe, well guarded. I also wouldn't do her harm to feel the pull of the mate bond, feel the tug on her heart from me being away from her.
She was fighting against it, fighting against that pull. She was strong, but judging by our time in the kitchen last night, she wasn't wholly capable of denying that call to be mine.
I was in the library at Jude's pack. He had records here that went back for centuries, things that not even the council had access to.
Some of the books I needed were in the far back, the dark and dusty part where my cell signal doesn't
reach.
I was reading through an old book, which was handwritten in calligraphy...the ink bleeding through the pages and making it difficult to make out most of the words. These writings were centuries year's old.
I wanted to cover all bases, make sure I knew as much as I could. From what I gathered so far, the white wolf bged to the original pack and was created by the moon goddess to protect them.
I was trying to find out what happened to this original pack, to find out how far back our werewolf ancestry went.
I had always assumed the first shifters would have mixed with humans, resulting in the original shifters moving further away from the power of the moon.
Their powers blending or being watered down for a better word.
Was Kaia an original werewolf that hadn't been affected by centuries of evolution.
Checking my phone again, I'm struggling to lose that sense of foreboding.
Whoever said distance makes the heart grow stronger didn't have a mate trying to leave the pack grounds on a regular basis, only for my command to prevent her. I didn't want to put it on her, I could tell it hurt her.
As soon as I exit the library my phone starts to beep with notifications as the signal kicks back in. Missed calls, voicemails and text messages all from Riley's mobile number doesn't help soothe that dread growing within me. I listen to the first voicemail...a groan escaping me for thinking I could leave without drama unfolding.
"Alpha, a male is at the gate claiming to be Luna's Beta..."
The phone beeps onto his next voicemail.
"Alpha, Luna is adamant she wants to meet this Beta. Her sister has sent a picture and I can verify it is him ... How shall I proceed?"
Adrenaline fuelled by panic makes me listen to the next message but I already know Kaia would have approved entry.Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Alpha, I'm not happy with the situation. Luna has kicked me out of the meeting, I am standing outside the alpha house waiting. I'm listening in as much as I can."
My wolf has heard enough, he pushes through the barrier and hits the call back option for Riley as I break out into a sprint towards my car.
"Alpha?"
"Riley, don't leave her alone with him." I command down the phone.
"Alpha?"
"Get in there now..." My growl is from sheer panic and desperation to maintain her safety.
"Riley?" I roar.
"Shit..." He growls and I hear a whooshing sound as he must move at speed with the phone in his hand.
I hear him burst through the door, his thunderous growl not quelling the rising panic within me as I continue to run towards my car.
On the phone I hear an almighty crash before the phone line goes dead, and I start my engine, hitting the gas pedal and zooming out of the pack grounds.
As I gain distance on the Dark Phantom pack I can feel the pack link starting to come back. Its frequency growing the closer I get to my own lands.
As soon as I hit the pack link barrier, I command my warriors to rush to the alpha house but they are already heading towards that location.
Their desire to protect their future luna driving them to run as fast as they can, as they report to me that Riley is unresponsive through the link. He hasn't died, I would have felt the pack link snap out of place, I would have felt his passing. I only just miss the gates, I wasn't going to stop, I would plough through them if I needed to. What was Samson doing here and why now...why was he here now.
I leap out of the car, leaving it running as my wolf pushes me to move...not that he needed to.
"Kaia...it's vital that you remember me." His hands are all over her, clinging to her face.
My eyes see red as he dares to touch my mate, dares to touch what is mine.
The smell of her blood circulating the room,
I don't wait for an explanation, I rip him off her, my brute strength flinging him back into the wall. I put my weight behind my fist as it hits at the corner of his mouth. "Don't you dare touch her." I roar out as my warriors surround him, gripping his hands behind his back.
I wish they didn't, I'd like to rip his arms of him myself. Burn his hands for touching my mate, touching my
