Chapter 12
Title: Worried about him
Maybelline Walter POV
I held my phone tightly contemplating on whether I should or not call Miles. Why was I worried about him, I had no idea.
“It’s normal to be worried. How will you get your balance if he doesn’t come home?” I said to myself as I went to check the window again to see if he had already come in since I could see the parking lot from my window, but his car was not yet at the parking lot.
“Why is he taking so long?” I mumbled and finally dialled his number.
“Hey, wife,” His deep voice sounded from the other end, and my heart missed a beat. I suddenly lost my voice and my breath hitched for a moment as my heart pumped hard.
“Are you there? May?” His voice sounded again and I pursed my lips and took a deep breath.
“Hmm. Sorry, I didn’t intend to call you. I thought I dialed Lily’s number,” I rushed my words and quickly hung up.
“Fuck! What was that?” I breathed out and cursed as I held my chest.
“You must’ve lost it for a moment, May. How could you have done that?” I whined and slumped on the bed.
My mind was literally occupied with nothing but the thought of my annoying boss, so I sat up on the bed and decided to search through Google for the reason behind my weird action.
‘What does it mean when I think about someone and smile?’ I typed on the search engine on Google and clicked on search, and as it was loading, my heart pumped hard against my chest. It took a few seconds before the result popped on the screen of my phone.
‘Here are the reasons why you smile when you think of someone’ I clicked on it and the things that were displayed on my screen made my eyes narrow.
‘When you think of someone and smile, it means you two did something together that brings you pleasure’ I gasped when I finished reading that, and the first thing I could think of was that night. Even though I could barely remember what happened when I woke up, I couldn’t forget the pleasure I had that night.
“It can’t be. It’s not that,” I quickly dismissed the thoughts and scrolled slowly through my phone to check for any more possible reason behind the crazy feelings I’ve been having lately.
‘Thinking about someone and smiling could mean you have developed feelings for the person’ I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“Don’t be ridiculous. Me? Feelings? That’s not possible. I mean, that dude is not my type,” I retorted to my phone as if it could hear and reply to me.
“That’s not the reason. Let’s keep scrolling,” Furthermore, I kept scrolling and all the results I got weren’t encouraging enough, so I gave up searching and just tossed my phone on the bed.
“My life is so boring,” I mumbled and rubbed my stomach. Knowing a baby was growing inside me, I found myself smiling. I was going to be a Mom in a few months.
The door suddenly opened while I was still rubbing my stomach, and I snapped my head up to find Miles standing. His eyes fell on my stomach and he raised his eyebrows.
I quickly removed my hand and stood up from the bed.
“You are home?” I scoffed nervously.
“Hmm. You’ve been rubbing your stomach since morning. Are you sure you are fine? Do you want me to take you to the hospital for a test?” He walked over to me worriedly.
“No, I’m fine… It’s just… it’s just that I’m hungry,” I mumbled and turned my face away. I had already eaten and was full, but that was the only excuse I could give so he wouldn’t suspect anything. I really needed to keep this pregnancy a secret until these three months were over.
“Did Adelie not make dinner?” He asked.
“She did… Never mind. I’ll be fine. Besides, she already slept off,” I replied to him.
“Don’t worry, wait here for me. I’ll be back shortly,” He said and without spending another second with me, he walked out of the room, leaving me wondering where he was going.
“Maybe he is going to cook for you,” My subconscious mind said to me, but I quickly dismissed the thought because that was like something that would never happen.
I suddenly felt thirsty, so I left for the kitchen to go get water.
The aroma coming from the kitchen as I descended the staircase made me wonder who was in the kitchen at that time of the night. Regardless, I proceeded to the kitchen and I flinched when I walked inside and found a shirtless man inside.
“Wife, you are here?” My heart stopped beating the moment the person turned to face me and I realized it was Miles. My jaw dropped to the ground as I stared at those sexy biceps down to his toned abs. I gulped down nothing when I looked down at his waist and saw the huge thing hanging between his legs. He had changed from the clothes he was wearing earlier and was now cladded in just short trousers.
“May?” He called my attention as I was lost staring at him.Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“Ye… yes… Uhm… Did you say something?” I stuttered and turned my face away.
“Do you need anything? You said you were hungry so I came to make something for you,” His cold voice sounded through my ears, and my heart fluttered. It was literally the first time a man was going to cook for me and fuck! It didn’t feel real. It felt like I was dreaming.
“Uhm… No, I don’t… I… I… I came to get… wat… er…” I tried to keep my eyes away, but I couldn’t stop myself from looking back at his sexy body. How could he be here, shirtless?
“Uhm… I’ll get it now,” I stuttered and quickly opened the refrigerator.
“Do you need help with that?” He asked, referring to the bottled water I was holding.
“Oh… No, thanks. I’ll be in my room,” And with that, I dashed out of the kitchen and took off to my room. I crashed against the door and breathed out as soon as I barged inside my room.
“Shit!” I cursed and breathed out again as I rested my head on the door. Was he trying to seduce me or something? I’ve only been here for barely seventy-two hours and all these were happening. How much more was left for me for the rest of the months I had to spend here?
“This is crazy,” I mumbled and dragged myself to sit on the bed. I drank from the bottle and then kept it back on the center table, feeling much better now.
My phone beeped and I reached for it. It was a text from Lily.
‘Are you there, sweetheart?’ I rolled my eyes. Why was she texting me at this time of the night?
‘Hmm, I’m here. Why are you not asleep yet?’ I replied to her text and another text from her popped in almost immediately.
‘I should be asking you that. Why are you not sleeping yet? Is the baby kicking? Is he giving you a hard time?’
‘Don’t be silly, Lily. The pregnancy is less than one month. How is it supposed to kick?’ I added a few emojis and sent them to her.
‘Whatever! You should rest more because the baby needs it. Anyway, that’s not why I texted you’
‘Can you please help me get Mr. Miguel’s number? I want to speak to him again’ she messaged me again, adding a few pleading emojis to her text.
‘No!’ I replied to her bluntly and went offline immediately. Just then, the door opened and my heart fluttered when Miles walked inside. Thankfully, he was wearing a singlet to cover his chest this time as if he knew I’d freak out at the sight of it.
“I brought your food,” He uttered as he brought the food to me.
“Thank you,”
“You look like you have something disturbing you. Just let it out. I’ll listen to you,” I guess he noticed the expression on my face. How could I not be disturbed when he was overly nice to me?
“Uhm… I was just wondering why this weird behavior of us since I moved in. You’ve been nice to me, and I haven’t seen that side of you since I started working as your secretary,” I finally let out the thing bothering me, but he just shrugged.
“Just because,” Was the only reply he gave me, leaving me wondering what he meant by that.
“We are married, so I should be nice to my wife, don’t you think?” He looked me in the eyes and uttered in the calmest voice that left my heart fluttering.
“Oh…” I just mouthed and slowly nodded.
“I will leave you to eat now. I still have a lot of things to handle tonight. I don’t want to disturb you, so I’ll just use the guest room,” he said as he stood up from the bed, and I nodded.
“Good night. Call me if you need anything,” He said before he left the room, and I breathed out. He gets complicated every second…
