Chapter 0021
Just as the man's hand was about to slip under her skirt, a series of sudden screams pierced the air, making the man's hand tremble in fear..
A flicker of hope flashed in Mia's eyes as she shouted, "Help me!"
The next second, the man pinning her down was violently yanked off.
A man's coat was thrown over Mia's trembling body. The faint scent of cedar wood filled her senses, and her tense nerves immediately began to relax.
"Close your eyes, don't look," a gentle voice whispered by her ear.
Mia couldn't help but glance up at the man.
"Zac?" she asked in disbelief.
How could this all have happened by such coincidence?
"It's me," Zac replied softly, filled with warmth. "Be good, close your eyes. I'll carry you to my car."
Mia bit her lip, wanting to say something, but ultimately obeyed, closing her eyes.
She could still hear the occasional screams in the background, making her instinctively clench her fists. In a quiet voice, she said, "Zac, please call the police. I want to press charges against them." "You don't need to get involved. I'll make sure they end up in prison. Don't worry," Zac's voice was gentle, and Mia felt a surge of gratitude.
She whispered, "Thank you, Zac."
"We haven't seen each other in three years, but I'm still like a brother to you. That hasn't changed. Mia, we shouldn't be so formal with each other," Zac frowned. "If you thank me again, I'll be upset." Mia took a deep breath. "Okay, I won't say it again."
She had known Zac since they were kids. After her younger sister went missing, her parents had often scolded and beaten her, leaving Mia terrified to return home.
She would often run to the Ford family's house, seeking refuge. Knowing Mia was afraid of the dark, Zac would stay by her side all night, even dozing off by her bedside when he grew tired. She always thought of him as an older brother and relied on him deeply.
Then, at seventeen, her family found her long-lost sister. For some reason, her sister became obsessed with Zac, insisting she wanted to marry him.
To make that happen, her parents forbade Mia from seeing or contacting Zac. Once, when Mia happened to run into Zac, her family found out, and her sister threatened to commit suicide.
No matter how much Mia tried to explain her platonic relationship with Zac, no one believed her.
In an effort to sever their connection completely, her parents arranged a marriage for her. The man was fifty years old with two adult sons, offering a generous amount of money if they got married. Chapter 0021Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Mia had no idea this was happening. One day, her parents tricked her into meeting the man, and she ended up
up drinking lemonade her sister had given her.
After that, she remembered nothing.
When she woke up the next morning, she found herself in bed with Hunter Jasper.
From that night on, Hunter had always believed she schemed to get him into bed, never accepting that she was just as much a victim of a setup.
One thing led to another, and she ended up married to Hunter, though it had never been her plan. Even though their beginning was far from ideal, Mia held onto the hope that she and Hunter could eventually have a loving marriage. Three years later, she still couldn't warm Hunter's heart. They weren't a loving couple, and now, they were headed for divorce.
"Mia, are you happy with him?" Zac asked softly, his gaze gentle.
Pulled out of her thoughts, Mia took a deep breath and replied, "We're fine."
If Zac knew she was getting divorced, he would likely reach out, offering support. If her family found out, it would only stir up trouble. To avoid unnecessary complications, it was better not to say anything. "That's good," Zac replied, his tone as gentle as ever, making it hard to tell what he was really feeling. "When did you get back, Zac?" Mia asked.
"I returned a week ago. I've been busy setting up my law firm," Zac paused briefly before continuing, "If you're not happy at HH Law Firm, you're welcome to join me at my new firm as a senior partner." Mia blinked in surprise. "QM is your firm?"
