“You need to work on your emotions, Knight. Just tell her you love her and you wanna marry her.”

I blocked Kailin. I knew she was listening, but that could wait until Nirvana was back on her feet.

She was literally back on her feet. She just stood before us and breathed deeply.

“Is Asina still trapped?”

She laughed softly. “I haven’t done it, Zarah.”

“Take it easy. Are you sure-” I hadn’t finished my words; she closed and opened her eyes, and they were glowing.

“Whoa.”

We all had the same reaction as we stared at her. Her eyes were glowing in a blue hue, and so was her whole body. She was flamed but not burning.

“Oh, my God. It’s awesome.” Kailin stepped closer to her, but Shadow held her in the arm.

“I think she can’t burn me, can you, Vana?”

“I don’t think so.” She tried it on the bed, pressing her palm on the mattress. Nothing happened.

“Only when triggered.” Sebastien came back. “Maybe we should test it.”

“No,” Zarah and I said in unison.

“Maybe she doesn’t know how to control it.”

“I think I can.” She snapped her fingers, and the flame was gone. She did it again and again. She blinked, her eyes glowed, then blinked again, and it was gone.

“Can you fly?”

“That’s a silly question, K. I can’t fly.”

“Come down.” Sebastien gestured his head.

They left the room while I helped her put on her boots. “Where did you keep the dagger?”

She smiled. “How do I know it’s you?”

I chuckled and shook my head. “Right. Do you know where I first kissed you?”

“In the car?”

“Wrong. You saw me in your dreams.”

“That was a dream, and you were a wolf and scared the hell out of me. You did not kiss me. You licked me.”

“I really wanted to kiss you that day you were with Kailin looking out the balcony, but I chickened out.” I tied the last shoelace and stood up. Then I cupped her face and pressed a kiss on her lips. “I was a coward and chose to hurt your feelings.”

“You still are?”

“I know.” I held her hand and linked our fingers together as we went down.

“Over here.” Alessandro opened the thick iron door for us. Once Nirvana and I entered the empty room, he locked it behind us.

“Hey. What’s going on?” I looked around, and it was just the two of us in thick concrete walls, nothing inside, even a light, but a small window with iron bars.

“Alessandro, open it.” Nirvana banged the door while I searched for a trigger or something, but it was built to withstand a strong force.

“Shit.”

“You find something? Maybe you can use those laser eyes of yours.”

“I’m not Superman, Nirvana. I have night vision. Don’t panic. Okay?”

“Is this some kind of a test?” She started yelling.

“Sweetheart, you’re hurting my ears. I’m sure there’s a two-way communication device here. Maybe a camera is hidden somewhere. That’s what I would put if I have this kind of containment.” I searched for it, but whoever built this was either a genius, or there was really no device in here.

“We should take a seat. They will open when it’s time.” I took a seat at the corner, and she joined me.

“I hate you all. I’m starving. I just got kidnapped, and now you locked me up. My trauma just hit the roof, bitches.”

I wrapped her in my arms and kissed her head. “You didn’t just call them bitches.”

“I just did, including the big dog. I’m sure he’s listening or watching us. Maybe we should get naked and see if it won’t get awkward.”

“You should let Asina out and knock the door down.”

“I’m hungry. I was thinking of double whooper, french fries, and a large size of soda.”

“You’re starving, huh?”

“I told you. The last thing I had was the martini.” She lifted her gaze and looked at me. “Thanks for the party. I had fun until those dicks ruined my night. What did you do to Dylan?”

“I did not do anything to him. Dylan was telling the truth when he said he had no idea. And I like him around. He’s like a walking grimmopedia.”

“I’m glad you’re here. I thought I wouldn’t see you again.”

“Me too, Nirvana.” I sniffed when something reached my nostrils. “What the fuck?”

“What’s that smell?”

“Wolfsbane.” I got up and helped her up.

“What? Isn’t it like your Kryptonite?”

“It can hurt us in small doses, but it could kill our wolf.” I just saw the mist from the left corner of the room. “Get it in the corner, Nirvana. It could hurt you, too.”

My pulse raced. My wolf became restless. What was this test all about? For Nirvana to save me if I lost consciousness?

“Take this. Cover your mouth and nose.” I took off my shirt and gave it to her.

“No, you do it.”

My eyes narrowed. “Stop defying me, sweetheart. You just had the traumatic night of your life. I can’t risk you getting hurt again.” I eyed the corner. “Hey! This is not funny anymore! Open this door. Now!”

The mist began to spread in the front, and I started coughing. My eyes began to sting.

“Hold on to me. Maybe we could get through the door.” Nirvana hugged me tight. In a blink, we were in the same room but hitting the wall. “I can’t believe this. Zarah, I will break your nose. I swear. You can’t kill Knight. Enough of this fucking test!”

My eyes widened as I thought she was about to do something reckless. “Nirvana, don’t!”

She just went to the mist, but it didn’t hurt her. Only silver and magic could hurt her, while I began to sweat, and my wolf started to go wild.

She looked up. “I wish I could fly. Fuck this.”

“What are you planning to do, Nirvana?” I continued coughing and punching the wall, but it was nothing I’d seen before. It was like a panic room that served to stand a nuclear bomb. Maybe it was made of Titanium or something denser.

“Stay there.” She must have been trying to summon Asina, but she didn’t glow. She then hit the door. The impact just threw her back, whining on the floor. “Son of a bitch. This is not a joke or test anymore.”

“I will lift you and try to pull those iron bars,” I said, coming to her. The mist had just reached half the room, and my skin started blistering.

“I will not forgive them. Put your clothes back on.” She pulled out her shirt and gave it to me. “Cover your nose, baby. We can get out of here. I promise you.”

I couldn’t help but smile.

“We’re about to die, and you get to smile?” She glared at me

“You called me baby at times like this?”

“So?” She lifted a brow. “Fuck them.” She cupped my face and kissed me hard. “If we die today, I want you to know that I liked you the first time I saw you. Now get back, baby.” She blew a breath and eyed at the small window.

“What are you going to do?” But Nirvana was gone.

My breathing became ragged. My body weakened, and I fell on my knees as I coughed out blood.

Just seconds later, the door unlocked from the outside, and she came running to me and jumped us out.

Nirvana brought us to the shore. I felt the sand on my palms.

“What took you both so long?”

“Do you think it was funny?” Nirvana growled at Sebastien, sitting on the chair facing the ocean. He even had a drink in his hand and a phone in the other as he watched us suffer inside the room.

“It was to test you both when you could think straight in a time of desperate needs. That room is built to lock any supernatural beings. No one has ever escaped in that room, even Kain. Zarah put a spell on it. You can’t escape it unless you’re a ghost or a demon. Nirvana didn’t use her power but her teleportation gift. Why?” He looked at her. “Did you hesitate even if your mate is suffering and about to die?”

“I knew you were watching us. I can show someone Asina’s true nature, or I won’t. You wouldn’t know. I scanned the blueprint of the room. There were built-in cameras on all corners, probably an audio device, but you only turned on one Wolfsbane gas. That means you didn’t intentionally try to kill us. And there’s one flaw in your design.”

“What is it?”

“The entire house.”
