Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

100

NIRVANA We took this stupid son of a bitch, Victor, to the house.

Knight never took his eyes off him. If we didn’t stop him, Victor could be dead by now.

“You haven’t answered my question, Victor. Who put you up to this? Why me?”

Knight’s nose flared when Victor still hesitated. “You better give me a reason not to kill you because right now, I don’t give a shit about the council anymore. I’d rather go rogue after what you put my mate through. You put her and my entire pack in grave danger. I want an answer, Victor!”

“You want the answer?” He glared at both of us. “We’ve been watching her for weeks now. The moment you found her, the same time this plague began.”

I snorted. “So now what? I’m patient zero?”

“We both know what I’m trying to say, Nirvana. We have resources all over the world. We know wherever you go, whatever you do?”

“Did I break any law or something I didn’t know about?”

“We should just put him inside the vault and let him get infected.” Kailin had been trying her best not to wring the head council’s neck as she began pacing in the living room. “I and fifteen of us almost died because you put her on the wanted list. There’s nothing you can say to convince me not to kill you, council.”

“Kailin, back off. I need answers. Don’t interrupt us.”

Kailin was still mad, but she listened to Knight.

“You did not just break any law, Nirvana. You broke the natural law!” he hollered at her.

A little over-chilled Knight and I looked at each other before I sat beside him. “What did I do now?”

“You died. You can’t lie to me. That’s why we suspected the virus had something to do with you.”

“That’s a freaking lie. I’m not infected. I did not spread the virus, and if I had known I was immune, I’d already turned myself in so someone could create a cure, and nobody would have died.”

“You always have something to say, do you? We know you don’t have the virus or immune. Let’s cut to the chase, Nirvana. You’re a descendant of Katzius.” He raised his hand. “Before you interrupt me or deny, don’t waste your time. We don’t have a plan to kill you.”

“But use her to defeat Cyrius when half your mercenaries are dead. Is that it?”

Victor glanced at Zarah but neither confirmed nor denied.

“When Alpha Knight requested a meeting, it verified your suspect over her,” Zarah added.

“Yes. And it became clearer when you started your quest to find a certain weapon. And what you did back at my house proved everything I suspected right. You should know that in your search for a weapon, you posed a threat to the entire underworld.”

That’s absurd.

“So you can’t do it like a normal person by asking me to appeal at the council? Instead, you risked my pack, and now people are still coming after me.”

“Would you come to us willingly, knowing what you must sacrifice?” Good question.

I grabbed Knight’s phone and offered it to him. “If you wanna live, call off the bounty, or I swear to God, I will tie you to a wall and offer you to the infected instead.”

“On one condition-”

“No.” I leaned closer and looked at him in the eye. “You lost that right to appeal proposition when you put my name on that list like a criminal.”

“Nirvana, let him talk.”

I glared at Zarah before I turned my attention to this son of a bitch. “No. First, take off my name, or more people will die and come to take me to claim their reward.”

“Fine.” He took the phone and dialed a number. He waited for a few seconds until someone answered from the other line. “Call off the bounty on Nirvana Thorne. It’s confirmed, she’s the Guardian.”

“The what now?” I pretended to be shocked.

“I haven’t. She refused. I’ll call you soon.” He ended the call and gave the phone back to me.

“What’s the Guardian?”

“You’re kidding? How did you not know about this?”

“How could I? Just weeks ago, I was a human who was oblivious to your world. Then I just found the only family I have left, kept a huge secret about my life, that I was cursed by a dickhead that’s why I am not one of them. Then, my best friend for four years, I didn’t know she could transform into a four-legged dog. You know what’s shocking? That since birth, I was arranged to an asshole alpha who rejected me because I’m a pathetic naive little human girl. Forgive me if I don’t know about the history of your kind.”

The entire house suddenly turned eerily silent.

“Finding out who you truly are must be hard for you.” Somehow, he sounded sincere. I almost believed him, but it didn’t change the fact that I almost died because of what he did.

“Earlier today, I just witnessed the first person I saw shift died in that vault. He was helpless and exploded. And then I was kidnapped by a ruthless killer who executed a man in front of me and beside me. I still have John’s blood on my shirt, my hair, and my face. So, I’m done being anyone’s puppet. If you want my help, then you have to earn that.” I walked away from him, from everyone, and made my way to the kitchen.

I opened the refrigerator and took a bottle of water. My hands were still shaking, and every part of my body began to shake-the horror I’d witnessed had just sunk into me.

I dragged myself down because I couldn’t stand straight anymore. I tried twisting the lid of the bottled water, and I couldn’t even open it.

“Let me.” Knight came and sat beside me, helping me open the lid.NôvelDrama.Org content rights.

I took the bottle he offered and drank it until it was almost empty, but my throat remained dry.

In silence, I prayed he would not ask me to tell him in detail because I was not ready or would never be prepared to talk about my day.

He just wrapped me in his arms and hugged me tight.

“Where’s the what the fuck were you thinking, don’t ever do that again, or I swear to Goddess speech?”

“That’s for another day.” He kissed the top of my head. “I’m glad you’re okay. It was hard to breathe knowing you were out there on your own while with those greedy murderers.”

“I know my apology won’t mean a thing because I might do it again when circumstances arise.”

He chuckled sadly. “That’s the price I must pay for having a strong-willed and independent mate.” When he stared at me intensely, I wanted to melt. “For fuck’s sake, don’t ever do something like that again.”

“I thought scolding me is for another day?”

“You can risk your life like that again.” He tried to wipe off the dried blood on my face, but it seemed like it wouldn’t go.

Snorting, I stared at him in disbelief. “So you’re the only one with the right to risk your life because you’re an alpha? The last time I checked, everyone’s life was in danger because of me. They came after me. The least I could do for so much guilt inside me was to save them. I thought of all people you would understand me.” I quickly rose to my feet and left him.

I ignored him even if he was still calling my name. I went back to the living room. Victor was still under everyone’s scrutinizing glare.

“I want to know more about the Guardian. I suppose you can free your schedule for today.”

“When you died and reborn, you possessed the most powerful weapon. It had never been chosen a man, but a woman with pure soul and intention.”

“Yeah. How did they know I have a pure intention?”

“Just listen, Nirvana.” Zarah shot me a glare.

“There are many kinds of Guardians. Since you have a werewolf and witch blood, I suppose you possessed a warrior wolf spirit.”

“That sounds like it came from a fantasy game.”

“By what I saw earlier, Asina is your spirit warrior.”

Shit.

He knew everything.
