Courageous
“What are you doing here?” Lily asked Kenneth sternly. She had to show Kenneth that she wouldn’t tolerate his insults any longer. Despite her terror regarding her stepbrother, she said, “It was you who did this to Drew! You, you… It’s your fault that Drew got hit by the car!”
Tears flowed uncontrollably from Lily’s eyes. She wanted to lash out at Kenneth. He was the one who had confessed to the terrible things he had done to her husband. This was too much-way too much!
“Lily, calm down… I’m a doctor. Where else should I be? Mr. Walton had a mild fracture in his legs and ribs, and I recommend he stay in the hospital for a few more days. We need to monitor his health for the time being.”
“No! I’ll get Drew out!” Lily exclaimed, battling the anxiety of her husband being in the hospital with Kenneth nearby. “I’m going to take Drew out of this hospital to get him away from you!”
Drawing attention from passers-by, some of them started looking at them.
Suddenly taking on a big brotherly tone, Kenneth asked sweetly, “Lily, have you taken your medicine yet?”
‘What medicine?’
Lily turned to face the onlookers. Did she appear crazy at the moment? Perhaps she wanted to discharge Drew from the hospital despite his incomplete recovery and multiple physical issues.
Her husband wasn’t even awake!
“Lily, I’m your brother, and I know what I’m doing as a doctor.” Kenneth smiled, but for Lily, it was nothing but a reminder, giving her a creep.
A woman came forward, following Kenneth. “Mrs. Walton, I’m Dr. Martin’s assistant in the operating room. He asked you to let your husband stay because Mr. Walton needs to rest and undergo 24-hour monitoring. He has bruises and some broken bones. Releasing your husband from this hospital without us providing meaningful results won’t be in his best interest.”Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“But why is he unconscious? Why is my husband asleep? Kenneth must’ve done something!”
The hospital staff’s expressions turned sour. “Mrs. Walton, are you suggesting that we are harming the patient instead of fulfilling our duties?”
“I’m sorry for my sister.” Kenneth gently prodded the woman, adopting the demeanor of a watchful physician and a sympathetic stepbrother. “Lily, you’re being unreasonable right now. If you care about Drew, you probably don’t want anything bad to happen to him.”
Lily balled her fist. She desired to harm Kenneth! No matter what he had planned for her, he shouldn’t have included her husband, causing harm this way!
“Ms. Lily…” Sarah, who was carefully choosing her words, took her arm and sighed, “As the boss’s wife, I understand that you have authority among us, but perhaps we should let the boss stay here until he wakes up. He will surely instruct us to take him home when he awakens. Let’s follow the hospital’s advice for now.”
Orion added, “We’ll keep a close watch on the boss if you’re worried.”
Lily couldn’t argue anymore and realized she was utterly overwhelmed. But what could she do? Kenneth had manipulated her emotions by using her husband as a pawn. Accepting the outcome, she tried to calm her heart while gritting her teeth.
‘No, Lily! You must fight without appearing to be an insane woman, not like this.’
“Sister…” Kenneth was about to pat her on the head when Lily stepped away. She resisted his threats while perceiving the danger in his demeanor.
“Fine! We will stay.” ‘I’ll keep an eye on you, Kenneth. I won’t let you harm my husband in any way.’
Lily narrowed her eyes and wished she could wipe away Kenneth’s fake smile. If only everyone were aware of the demon hidden beneath his appearance.
Kenneth smiled sweetly. “Good. We’ll hand him over to an orthopedic surgeon. I regret that I couldn’t be your husband’s attending physician.”
‘Bastard!’
Kenneth continued, “We’ll transfer Mr. Walton to a private room; he’s likely to wake up soon. I’ll let the nurses provide further details because I have another appointment, so please forgive me.”
Her body felt weakened, as if she had just returned from war after Kenneth had left her sight, leading to her sobbing. Does she look pathetic?
Sarah rubbed Lily’s back, explaining, “I was too preoccupied with the phone calls to realize Kenneth was the surgeon who had come in earlier for the boss. I’m sorry. I was careless.”
She nodded. “He did it, Sarah! He was the one driving the motorcycle that was going to run over Drew.”
“How was he able to get there in time to see the boss?” the assistant questioned in a doubtful tone.
‘Because Kenneth is a lunatic psycho!’
That was the only explanation she could come up with for her brother’s behavior. Kenneth lacked consistency in his approach; he would be nice initially, but he might swiftly become angry and apologize like a scheming, manipulative monster. He was off his rocker and viewed her as a lost possession.
While they were tending to Drew’s medical needs, Lily received a message from Kenneth.
Kenneth: You’re being courageous, Lily, and I hate it!
She deleted his message and then added him to her block list.
‘Was this the first time you’ve been upset with me, Kenneth? Because I’ve hated you for too long.’

While Drew was resting on the bed with his eyes closed, Lily glanced gloomily in his direction. She held his hand while silently praying. He winced for a moment before cautiously opening his eyes.
“Boss!” exclaimed Orion, noticing Drew’s slight movements.
Because Lily was experiencing conflicting emotions, she burst into tears when her eyes met Drew’s.
“Shit!” Drew groaned.
Lily, who was in tears, stated, “Don’t move. Your leg didn’t look well, and the doctor cast it. You also have a massive bruise on your back from the accident.”
Despite experiencing some physical discomfort, her husband still gave her his full attention, questioning, “Why are you crying when I’m still alive?”
She irritably confronted him. “Because you scared me! What do you want me to do, rejoice that you got hit by a car?”
“My head is aching from your cries.”
She stopped crying after hearing what he said. After a while, Drew caressed her cheek.
“I’m just kidding. Where are we?”
“You’re here at the hospital, boss,” Orion replied.
“Let’s go home. I don’t want to stay here because I’m going to get ill here…” Grunting, he continued, “Aissst! My body hurts from head to toe.”
“I’ll go out to find the doctor,” said Orion.
Drew squeezed Lily’s hand. “Stop crying…”
“It was Kenneth…” she murmured.
Drew frowned in confusion at what she had stated.
“Kenneth was the motorcycle’s driver who grabbed you to make it appear as though it had been an accident. Ironically, he was also the surgeon who treated you when you were rushed here. Her chest burned with anger whenever Lily looked back at the event.”
“They checked the security cameras in some nearby establishments to see if what happened to you was recorded, but the investigation indicated that the motorcycle caught you as it passed, and the car that was following it was what put you in the hospital today.”
Drew appeared emotionless as he recalled what had happened. After a while, his pupils constricted. “That’s why you cry so much. Did Kenneth do something to you?”
“No. Orion is keeping a close eye on me. But he must have done something to knock you out for a few hours.”
“Yeah. I recalled several scenes from my time in the emergency van. The last thing I remember is the medical team taking care of me. The next thing I knew was seeing Kenneth after I regained consciousness. He grinned at me as he told me he was going to give me a sleeping drug so I wouldn’t make a commotion in the operating room. He knew I wouldn’t let him treat me!”
“That asshole!” As Lily had anticipated, her stepbrother did something to her husband. She also doesn’t know Kenneth’s prospective methods for gaining the hospital’s trust.
“This is war, Lily… He’s declaring war against me.”
“But I will not allow myself just to be his trophy! If he wants a war, I’m with him! I’m not going to let him mess with my emotions any longer, and I told him I’d kill him if he did it to us one more time,” she vowed.
“Damn! That was sexy!”
His remark caused her cheeks to turn red.
Drew caressed her chin. “At least you don’t waste being a bad influence. Let’s go home, paint my favorite couch, and then make love, Lily…”
Lily nodded before kissing him on the lips.
