Chapter 113
Chapter 113
After Lorraine and Vanessa’s heartfelt conversation, it was up to Vanessa to make her decision.
After breakfast, Lorraine hurried to the orchards. Since it had just rained heavily, she didn’t bring the children and only had Logan accompany her.
When they arrived, they saw the workers with baskets, picking up the fruits that had been knocked down by the storm.
“Boss,” the workers greeted Lorraine. Noticing their baskets weren’t very full, she asked, “Have you been picking them up for some time or just started not long ago?”
“We started picking as soon as the rain stopped. Boss, despite the heavy storm, we were lucky to have harvested most of the ripe fruits before Easter. Not many fruits fell, and those that did weren’t damaged. After washing, we can still sell them at the market.”
It wasn’t the season for plums yet, so a few unripe fruits that had fallen couldn’t be sold. There weren’t many fallen cherries and mangoes either as the ripe ones had been picked
before Easter.
“There aren’t many fallen fruits. Everyone can take them home to eat. No need to sell them.”
Lorraine had always been generous with her workers. Selling the fruits that dropped from the storm could bring in some money, but she chose not to do that. Her workers worked hard, and she often shared fruits with them. These ones were no exception.
With smiles on their faces, the workers said, “Alright, we’ll take your offer. Thank you, boss.”
Lorraine smiled back. “We’ve been working together for many years like one big family. No need to be so polite. You all take your time picking. I’m going to look around.” Lorraine and Logan walked away.
Once they were out of earshot, the workers commented, “The boss‘ husband is really good–looking. Even though I’ve seen him before, every time I see him, I can’t help but look twice. It’s like seeing a mythical being. He’s just too handsome. I’ve never seen a man this good–looking.”
“The boss is kind, so the heavens gave her a husband who could be mistaken for a mythical being,” said a worker who was well–educated and articulate.
Lorraine didn’t know what the workers were saying behind her back. After inspecting every part of the orchards, she finally felt relieved.
According to the workers, since they had already harvested two batches of fruits before Easter, the remaining fruits on the trees weren’t ripe enough to fall easily. She gratefully told Logan, “We need to thank Sonia this time. If she hadn’t helped me secure that big order before Easter, this storm would’ve caused significant losses.” Thanks to that large order, she had already made back her initial investment this year. Now, any additional sales would be
pure profit.
“The biggest challenge with growing these fruits is the sales of cherries and mangoes. If the plums can’t be sold, they can be dried, and grapes can be made into wine. Cherries can also be made into wine, but selling them fresh is still the best.”
Logan asked her, “Have you ever thought about opening a processing plant for various fruits, making dried fruits and preserves? That way, you wouldn’t have to fruits spoiling and suffering
losses. Dried fruits and preserves have a longer shelf life.”
